President Louie Villella called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. at the Washburn County Economic Development Office-located at 208 Vine Street-Spooner, WI 54801

 

Present: Louie Villella, Rob Paine, Jim Bethel, Rob Lester, Greg Krantz, Morris Gillett, Pete Paine, Mark Krueger, and Chuck Jenkins.

 

 

Absent:  Lloyd Wallace

Others Present:  Margie Quinn, Dick Hartmann, and Steve Sather.

 

Concerned Citizens:  None

 

Morris Gillett made a motion to approve the agenda, Rob Lester 2nd the motion.  M.C. by unanimous vote.

 

Approval of meeting Minutes-Rob Paine made a motion to approve minutes from June 24, 2010.  Pete Paine 2nd the motion.  M.C. by unanimous vote.

 

Treasurer’s Report by Jim Bethel-Jim read the monthly Treasurer’s report and reported on the monthly bills.  The total expense for August and September was $8402.03 including wages for Marge and Dick. Checking account balance is $27660.02 and an additional $9266.70 in the CD account to be used for ½ marketing expenses, ½ for business plan development, and advertising. Total available funds are $36926.72.   Treasurer Jim Bethel stated Marge met with Laura from Anderson Hager and Moe.  Jim stated the reports next month will have the expense total as there was a glitch in QB before printing the new reports.  Pete Paine would like to have Marge run all previous reports along with new reports to compare for 2 months. Marge Quinn has provided board members with a Treasurer Report, P& L report monthly and a balance detail from QB.  Rob Paine made a motion to approve Treasurer Report and pay bills, 2nd by Rob Lester.   M.C. Pete Paine opposes.

 

Members Comments- Chuck Jenkins suggested Director Dick Hartman should visit the 5 perspective cities/villages, tax roles in Washburn County to include Shell Lake, Spooner, Minong, Stone Lake, and Birchwood.  Chuck stated Dick should get the positive incentives in each perspective area to put a package together to send to out of town business to attract new businesses in Washburn County.   Chuck suggested each municipality may be willing to put together their own brochure/ package together on the positive attractions for each area such as schools, power, etc. and give to Dick.  Chuck stated he would really like to see the package for WC business attractions in the next couple months and to follow with the mass mailings to new businesses by early spring.

 

Morris Gillett stated he would like each WCEDC Director to come up with one industry idea to develop/marketing/research that is feasible for Washburn County and pick maybe a couple that would work by the October meeting.

 

Director Report-

Directors Report was circulated to board members for review.  The President Louie Villella asks Board members for questions or comments.  Discussions were made.  Dick stated he has been out in the city of Spooner and visited several businesses in the past month. 

 

 

 

 

 

Discussion/Action on Municipalities follow up- President Louie Villella sated he had checked with 7 different municipalities, and stated all 7 had never received a letter from Dick asking the consideration for WCEDC membership in their budgets for 2011.  Dick Hartmann reassured Board Members that he would send the cities and villages a letter asking to consider membership for their 2011 budget. President Louie Villella has asked Dick to follow up with phone calls as well as sending the additional letters.
