Director Report - Director Joel Zimmerman discussed the possible Business Banquet he would like to have next spring at a charge of $40 a person for the banquet, but members get a special price of $20. The rationale behind the banquet is multi-faceted. First, again, this gives legitimacy to the WCEDC we have within the community on economic issues. Joel stated it allows us to highlight economic successes and growth around the county and allows the varying communities in the county to network with each other and learn from each other. The banquet would include an address from the Director, a keynote speaker, dinner, and awards. In addition, I would advocate for applying for a raffle license as a banquet activity to raise money for the WCEDC, or a silent auction.

Joel continues to work on the structure of our membership drive and is trying to make sure we can highlight the value of a member for prospective members. Joel stated that he would like the WCEDC to sponsor at one forum, training, and seminar on the economy/business/skills and to keep the cost to a minimum, and pay for things coffee and cookies. To bring in revenue by charging $20 a person, or $5.00 for members. Twenty dollars isn’t a crazy amount for someone to learn a new skill, but $5.00 is a steal for someone who may want to become a member. Offering these workshops gives the legitimacy to the public for what it is that we do and what we have to offer. It shows that we are more than someone trying to sell a loan and takes the attention away from our revolving door issue. Joel’s first seminar is scheduled for October 26th, and will be a Business Startup Planning Seminar, led by David Kochendorfer of the SBDC.

Joel stated in order to best and most cost effectively arrange registration for participants for our events; he would like to request the WCEDC upgrade our constant contact account. This will allow us to have online registration for all of our events, and will keep the amount of administration time low for running these events. It also increases the convenience factor for participants. The current cost of our Constant Contact account is $17 a month, or $204 annually. To upgrade to the Plus level, the cost, after non-profit discount, will be $31.50 a month, or $378 annually. I can explain the benefits of this program at our upcoming board meeting and answer any questions you may have.
